FWPSProud: FWPS Scholars End the School Year, Ready for Successful Transitions

FWPSProud: FWPS Scholars End the School Year, Ready for Successful Transitions

The end of the school year is a celebratory time when scholars across the district participate in moving up ceremonies and traditions to mark milestone transitions. We are so proud of our scholars’ commitment to learning over the past 10 months and are excited about their next steps as they continue pursuing their bright futures!

Senior Grad Walks

TBHS Senior Grad Walk at Panther Lake Elementary

Todd Beamer High School seniors are celebrated by Panther Lake scholars and staff as they take a final walk through their former elementary school.

Seniors participated in the heartwarming annual tradition of visiting their former elementary and middle schools before graduation to honor the journey they’ve made in FWPS. These special visits were met with encouragement and enthusiasm from younger scholars who celebrated their alumni’s achievements with roaring applause as the soon-to-be graduates paraded through the halls one last time. To them, the graduates were shining examples of what is possible with hard work and persistence to graduation!

Senior Signing Days

Each high school held a Senior Signing Day devoted to celebrating seniors and their post-secondary plans to continue pursuing a bright future.

Each graduating senior holds unique interests and goals that have informed their plans after graduation. To elevate the varied, yet equally significant college and career pathway choices of our graduates, each high school has held a Senior Signing Day event with their entire student body at school. These celebrations recognize each senior's persistence toward high school graduation and honor their academic journey of successful transitions leading to earning a high school diploma. During the events, graduates announced whether they would go on to a two-year or four-year college, technical program, trade school, military, or directly into a career. Additionally, the events heightened underclassmen’s belief in their own abilities to succeed, as they saw real examples of what is possible.

8th Grade Celebrations

Our middle school students have been preparing for their transition to high school, and are now ready to take the next step! Their commitment to learning in middle school was acknowledged by the entire school at 8th Grade Celebrations, and some families joined in to cheer on their scholars who are embarking on a new adventure! Some schools made a day of the celebration by including an eighth-grade walk through the halls, an awards ceremony, reception, and even a school day dance! These celebrations were wonderful send-offs to mark a job well done!

5th Grade Parades and Celebrations

Fifth grade scholars are celebrated for moving up by their school during the 5th Grade Parade.

Fifth-grade scholars proudly walk the hallways while their scholars and staff celebrate their upcoming transition to middle school.

One of the most major milestones for students is the transition from elementary to middle school. Our schools celebrated this exciting moment with 5th Grade Parades and celebration programs! For the parades, scholars and staff filled the halls with joy and cheers, bidding a heartfelt farewell to our amazing fifth graders as they embark on their exciting new journey into middle school! Families also joined in on the fun at the moving-up celebration programs to share this proud moment with their scholars.

Preschool and Kindergarten Celebration and Promotions

Excited Silver Lake kindergarteners celebrate a year of learning with a promotion ceremony.

Silver Lake Elementary kindergarten scholars, donning graduation caps, show off their transition certificates.

Preschool and kindergarten are years of tremendous growth for young scholars as they learn school expectations, develop social and emotional skills, find new friends, and experience a world of “firsts,” all while building the foundation to be confident learners. Young scholars beamed with pride when receiving their transition certificate while their future aspirations were read by staff. We are excited to see our scholars continue their commitment to learning and work towards mastery of all subjects.

Of course, we saved the best for last!

This past weekend, 1,511 seniors graduated high school ready for college and career, and we could not be prouder of them! Of those, 242 were the first in their families to graduate from high school and 401 will be the first to go to college. Thirty-two percent of our graduates earned at least one industry certification, and collectively, the Class of 2024 earned nearly $12 million in scholarships to pursue their bright futures after graduation.

According to what has been reported by seniors so far, here is the breakdown of what the Class of 2024 plans to do after graduation*:

  • 42% four-year college/university

  • 28% two-year community college

  • 11% two-year technical college

  • 7% apprenticeship

  • 2% military

  • 10% direct to career

Every graduate has a plan for the future, and we can’t wait to see everyone achieve their goals.

Until Next Year

It has been an incredible year of learning, growth, and achievement. We are #FWPSProud of all our scholars for all they have accomplished, and we are especially thankful to the staff, family, and community partners who provided support to make this school year a success. We can't wait to see what more scholars will master in the 2024-25 school year, but until then, let's all enjoy summer break!
